John Sebben
2011-12-24
Sebben, John A. Age 62, resident of El Dorado, Kansas, previous long-time resident of Deerfield, Illinois, passed away due to congestive heart failure on Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. John was a retired Deerfield Police deputy chief, beginning his career as a patrolman and serving over 30 years. He grew up in Deerfield and attended Deerfield High School, where he excelled on the varsity football team. In his spare time he enjoyed remodeling his home, visiting his children, and taking road trips to Arizona. John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sue; children Kaitlin, Kortney, and Gregory; mother Phyllis; brothers Jim and Richard; and his sister Suzie. There will be no services in keeping with the wishes of the deceased. John will be remembered by all for his great sense of humor and knack for giving advice when it was most needed.
John and I were good friends in high school and then reconnected at the 40th reunion along with Steve Shaffner and Robbie Holt. Great time. John and I stayed in touch via email after, and I could always hear his laugh just reading his emails. January 2012 I hadn't heard from him for a few months so emailed him to find out what the heck he was up to. So very sad when I received an email from Sue, John's wife telling me that John had passed away the month before. Still miss him today. RIP my friend.
