Mark Verbofsky
1989-07-01One of the three fifth-period freshman lunch musketeers, along with Bill Milligan and me, who sat together every day that school year [See my tribute to Bill], Mark had a tremendous interest in cars; but given that we hadn't even had driver ed yet, I couldn't have imagined he would go on to become a professional racecar driver. Unfortunately it was in this capacity - although he was doing what he loved - that he died at 39 during a qualifying race at Riverside (CA) International Raceway (which permanently ceased operations the following day). A really good guy - and an adventurous one - with skill and fortitude, who will always be missed.
