DEBORAH JEAN McDANIEL ... Deborah Jean McDaniel, age 63 of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Sterling Blackman and Catherine [Keefe] Price was born July 28, 1949 in Highland Park, Illinois. She died at the Decatur county hospital in Leon on Friday, November 9, 2012.
Debbie graduated from high school in the Chicago area. She graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri with a degree in Elementary Education. She spent her whole career teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade at Central Decatur Schools. She was based in all three buildings over the years, South, Decatur, and North Elementary. She was featured on 60 Minutes for teaching speed reading and also in Who's Who of American Teachers. She retired a few years ago.
On August 12, 1987 Debbie married Charles Eugene McDaniel in Blythedale, Missouri. She became a mother to his children, Tina and Tony. They lived south of Leon most all of their married life. Debbie enjoyed her computer, working jigsaw puzzles, games, and the grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her in-laws; and sister-in-law Sally McDaniel. Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Charlie McDaniel of Leon; children, Tina Talley of Clive, Iowa and Tony McDaniel of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren, Dezmond, Timothy, and Jazlyn; great grandson, Micah; sister Pam Smith and husband Bob of Fox Point, Wisconsin; brothers Sterling Price, Jr. and wife Candy of Wheaton, Illinois and Steve Price and wife Marcia of St. Louis, Missouri; Charlie's brothers, Al and Jerry McDaniel; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

I'm proud of Debbie, my fellow Red Oakie and career-long public school teacher, for all she achieved in the profession and in life.
